While a dozen or so folks were busily running trot lines on the Wicomico this morning, Cindy and I added a wildflower bed around the flagpole. A green Heron, crabbing or fishing right below us on the embankment flew off upriver for better privacy. The dogs alternated between searching on the beach, swimming in the river, or roughhousing in the yard. A short distance across our local bay we heard the low rumble of a tractor and the crunch of gravel as our neighbor headed off to plant fields either up or down the river.

In the background a never-ending chatter of birds comes from every direction. Red-wing blackbirds calling for summer, Mockingbirds warning everyone to stay away, finches and sparrows chattering heaven knows what.
Cindy has finished smoothing the new dirt, spreading, tamping down, and watering the seeds. In a few weeks a beautiful carpet of color will be home to bugs, food for hummingbirds, and a hide-away for the rabbits (not food I hope).
Plus, one can sit on the century old cast iron bench, enjoy the flowers and all the river life.
Stay Cool,
Jack
