Notley and Dol, running in the fields or searching for beach treasures, have taken no notice of Spring quietly slipping out the back porch door. The birds relentlessly keep building nests, except the Tufted Titmouse who is too busy stealing Black-Oil sunflower seeds from our window feeder. The sun has finished its northern trek, setting so far upriver it looked as if it was chasing the ghost of a steamboat that had just dropped off supplies to Cindy’s great-grandparents in the early 1900’s.
Cindy has cleared out the Old Kitchen at the Manor House, sorting through century-old memorabilia, finding photos of long-gone loved ones, and mysterious kitchen utensils from a nostalgic part of Notley Hall Farm’s past. She has repainted the walls, I’ve repaired the shelving, and boxed up some things for storage in the attic.
Soon Krista will sort through and organize the accumulated wedding ceremony and reception decorations and various accoutrements, so she is ready to help brides select what items they may want for their special day. Table Runners, Cake Stands, Shepherds Hooks, and dozens of other items are ready for use on the big day. All of these will be stored in the Old Kitchen, once I finish clearing up the floor.
In the meantime Dol and Notley, tuckered out from wrestling in the grass, chasing rabbits and stalking squirrels, are now laid out and contentedly panting, on this beautiful early summer morning.
Keep cool folks!
Jack
