Summer in Southern Maryland includes finding feathered, finned and funny creatures coming back, or crawling out of the ground.
Chay-Chays (or cicadas, don’t ask me, that’s what we called them here 60 years ago) have emerged from the ground, and are buzzing, bumbling and burning through the summer like time is short. Their sound is so nostalgic for many of us.
Hummingbirds are checking out everything that looks like a flower, when they’re not fighting over territory and feeders. It is so amusing to see three or four of these teeny-tiny things fighting so seriously over a feeder. It must be some good stuff.

Meanwhile, just off of St. Clements Island, we came across a pod of maybe 20-or more dolphins. They lollygagged, splashed and slowly disappeared down the river. Maybe they are under contract to police the Blue Catfish. Good luck with that!
Meanwhile… Squirrel!
Take care,
Jack
